Computer Digital Radiography (CDR)
Dental x-rays can now be taken using sensors that transmit
the image directly into a computer monitor. This larger
image helps the patient understand the doctor's explanations
more easily and enables the doctor to "zoom in"
on a specific area of the tooth. An important advantage
to this new technology is that it reduces the amount
of radiation by 90%. Digital x-rays are also faster.
The digital image only takes seconds to appear in the
monitor. In addition, this new technology is friendly
to the environment since no chemicals are needed for
developing the image.

Ultrasonic Cleaning
| Our office uses the mini-piezo scaler which is a gentle
ultrasonic device. This power scaler does a more thorough
job in less time. This results in significantly decreased
scaling time and healthier, cleaner teeth and gums. Hand
scalers require repetitive scrapping movements and are
restricted to adaptation of only one or two sides of the
instrument. In comparison, all four sides of a power scaler
can be adapted, because the device moves in an elliptical
motion. This comes in handy when removing stain and deposits
from behind and between the teeth. Piezo ultrasonic scalers
are more effective in removing stain as well. The ultrasonic
vibration helps control oral bacteria by breaking down
the cell wall of the bacteria. The water used to cool
the cavitron then helps to rinse away bacteria, stain
and debris. |

Our intraoral camera uses a tiny fiber-optic
wand to easily take vivid photographs of the inside of
your mouth. This allows us to let you see what we see. |
DIAGNOdent - laser cavity detector
One of the most important things we do for our patients
is to identify and fill cavities. Since even the smallest
spot of decay can threaten the integrity of the entire
tooth, finding and filling cavities is the key to preventing
further problems of all kinds. Historically, thats
why lengthy poking and prodding sessions have been an
acceptable, if not very comfortable, part of typical
dental exams. However, many people dont realize
that these methods of decay detection are only 50% to
75% successful. Cavities often hide along fissure lines,
or inside biting or occlusal surfaces. Further, these
mechanical exploratory methods are limited to finding
only those cavities that are equal to or larger than
the probe head. For all these reasons, weve invested
in DIAGNOdent which uses revolutionary new laser technology
to detect and quantify hidden or sub-surface caries.

Vizilite
The lesions which
are encountered in the oral environment range from the
obvious, to those which are difficult to find due to
colorations which are similar to surounding tissues,
or lack of induration or prominence. The chemolucent
ViziLite is a single use, disposable aid to the discovery
of suspect tissues. The wavelength of the illumination
from the ViziLite is absorbed by normal tissues and
reflected back by abnormal tissues, allowing them to
stand out from the surrounding tissues, and making them
easier to identify and find. As with all cancers, early
detection is the key to successful treatment and a reduction
in morbidity. The ViziLite is a useful aid to early
discovery.

Veneers
|
Porcelain veneers are conservative and
highly esthetic restorations. They are used to alter
the contour, color and size of teeth. Gaps or spaces
can be closed resulting in a beautiful smile. Today,
veneers are strong and durable and the patient can carry
on with their normal eating habits and they do not have
to worry about discoloration of the veneers over time.
